"The next giant leap for man kind."

In the year 2020, people will be sent to live on Mars. It's a non-returnable trip, and people are signing up for it. New crews will head out every 26 months after the initial crew has left. They say the most "complex, expensive, and risky part of the mission is the return trip." To sign up, people must go through a lot of training and tests. Their hope and goal  is that people will create a new life to live on Mars.

1. Do you think we should start new life on Mars?

2. Do you think it could work?

I personally believe that there's a bigger chance of this being non successful rather than being successful. And I'm not sure we should try starting life on another planet. It will take a long time to even get started because you are starting  with scratch. But then again, researchers have been looking into it more and they believe there is a possibility of this mission to work.

  • Yes we should it is the planet our solar system with gravity near earth norm and is the stepping stone to deeper space missions.

  • I think the idea of being able to survive and create a life on Mars is quite ridiculous and unbelievable. I will truly be shocked if people actually sign up for this. There are so many risks and possibilities of things to go wrong.

  • I don't think we should start a new life on Mars because it is so far away and who knows if it could really even be possible to live on mars. I think its pointless.

I don't think it could work because it would take of a lot of technology and we would have to either bring a lot of food or learn how to grow food on mars. I would say there is too much to chance so it wont be worth the investment

    • I agree, the whole idea of leaving a secure planet (for the most part) for a dangerous planet we don't know about is unbelievable! How are we supposed to be prepared to do this in 4 years?!

  • I think those are all great opinions. There are so many pros and cons. I feel it's a toss up. They can either go and it works wonderfully and we start a new population there, or it doesn't work and we use a bunch of money for nothing.

We haven't even explored most of the ocean yet here. Do you think we should finish discovering Earth before we try creating life on another planet?

  • I think it's a great idea because it will allow more room on earth and keep from over populating. I believe it will work with all of today's new technology.

  • I think this is a great opportunity and the people signing up for it are very brave. It takes brave people like that to make advancements. This might fail miserable but at least they will have tried. I don't know much about Mars, but I think it would be very different living on a planet other than Earth.

  • I think we should because it is exploration and that's how all great discoveries are made. I think it can work if they have the right technology and are able to sustain life.

  • I think life on a new planet would be great but not at this point in our stage of technology. I think that man should wait till we can almost guarantee a safe trip and there definitely needs to be a round trip. I think it could work but we will need to put more people on Mars if we have any hope of creating an actual civilization.

    • I would be scared and wouldn't sign up for it because our stage in technology might not be ready and because it's a non returnable trip.
