The Great Wall of America?

Wisconsin Governor, Scott Walker, has come up with an idea to build a wall separating America and Canada.  Walker is also a Republican Presidential Contender and said this idea came about when campaigning in New Hampshire.  The thought of a Northern border is a dramatic shift from the normal campaign-trail talk of the Mexican Border. Walker is focused on securing the United States borders and enforcing U.S. Laws.  He says this not only affects the Southern Border and Mexico, but also the Northern Border and Canada.

But why would there be a need for a wall separating two countries who have never had any major conflict? Supposedly, there have been terrorist attacks plotted in Canada.  The "Millennium Plot" in 2000 was a plan for an Algerian man to cross the border into the United States from Canada and bomb the Los Angeles International Airport.

What are the pros and cons of having a wall separating the United States and Canada? How do you think it would improve or harm relations with Canada?

I personally do not think that a wall between the United States and Canada is necessary, solely because we have not had any major conflicts with Canada. I also think that by putting up this barrier, Canada could possibly get the wrong idea about our intentions.

    • I agree with you! I think we should just avoid unnecessary conflict by not putting this wall up!

  • I don't think a wall between the US and Canada is necessary at all.. And although I can see the reasons for having one along the south coast, I doubt it would happen. What ever happened to "The Home of the Free"?

    • I agree with you! This would definitely cause unnecessary conflict between us and Canada, and I think we should focus on Mexico, as well!

  • Some of the pros of having a wall between Canada and America is that we will be able to regulate those who come in and out of the country a lot easier. The negative effects however is not necessary because we have not had any major conflicts and a lot of people travel up to Canada for fishing reasons. I think it would harm our relations between the two countries because it's putting a barrier between trade and distances us from one another.

    • I agree with you! Although you have listed some pros, I think the cons outweigh the pros!

  • I don't think it is a goo idea to have a wall between America and Canada. since there hasn't been any conflict between the two since 2000, then why would it be a concern

    • I agree! I think we would find ourselves regretting it when Canada gets the wrong message and becomes angry with us.

  • I think it would be a terrible, especially since we don't have any problems. Like why put up a wall, and make someone think we don't like them. When they aren't even a problem. I think it would harm it, because then they'll more then likely take it offensively.

    • I agree with you! I think this would create problems that America does not need!
