Student in jail after throwing paper airplane

In Anderson South Carolina, a high school student was charged with assault and battery after throwing a paper airplane in class. He was sentenced to jail for 30 days, but was released on a $1,087.50 bond. He was arrested for throwing a paper airplane that struck the teacher in the eye after the teacher recently had eye surgery. The principal didn't want to be part of it because the law enforcement decided it was necessary for them to be involved with situation.

Questions-

Do you think it was necessary for the boy to be charged or sent to jail?

Do you think law enforcement should have been involved?

I don't think the boy should have been charged they could have let him go with a warning and not even arrested him. I think the principal could have had a punishment for him and took care or it rather than having law enforcement take over.

  • Good job Hadley!

  • I don't think he should've been charged or go to jail. I think the school should've more involved and given him ISS or something instead of law enforcement being a part of it.

  • I don't really think it was necessary for the boy to go to jail, but perhaps he should have paid for the medical bills. If this really was just an accident, I don't see how he could be punished so harshly. In my opinion, I don't believe the police should have even been involved.

  • No it is not. This world is so corrupt and dumb now, even calling somebody a name can get you in serious trouble its so stupid.

No law enforcement should not be involved. Nobody got hurt, killed, and it a paper airplane.

  • Nope, All he did was throw a paper airplane if he had intent to hit the teacher in the eye then maybe ISS and a couple Saturday detentions since the teacher had eye surgery. But to be charged with 30 days jail because of throwing the paper airplane in the eye of the teacher intentional or not this is excessive for something as trivial as this even if the teacher just received eye surgery. No, involving law enforcement for this is something that just took time out of their day and wasted their time that could be spent on something that isn't as trivial.

  • I don't think that it was necessary for the boy to be charges. Every student in there life has threw a paper plane. I understand that it did hit the teacher in the eye after he had recently had surgery but that isn't fair to the student. I don't think that the law enforcement should have been involved. I think that this is something that could have been solved with the principle and student. The student could have just got a coupe Saturday detentions.

    • I agree completely. The student really didn't deserve anything that he had gotten.

  • If nothing bad followed the hit, I don't think he should have been sentenced to jail. It seems so over reacted. Detention should do it. If the teacher suffered greatly from the hit then more radical consequences were needed. Law enforcement should have stayed out of it if nothing happened from the hit. In my opinion this is a strange situation.

  • 1. the school system is so messed up no days and i think this is so stupid that some kid get arrested for throwing a paper airplane is boarder line stupid

    2. no the teacher shouldev just said dont do that and thats all you need

    • I agree the school to took it a little too far by making law enforcement get involved
