Should students say the Pledge of Allegiance at school?

Should students have to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning at school? Some schools require their students to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning in school, but some people do not completely agree with that. I don’t think that it is a big deal to have students say the Pledge, and I don’t fully understand why people wouldn’t want to show their respect to our country, our veterans, and our people actively in service by saying the Pledge.

I think that if students are really that against saying the Pledge, that they shouldn’t be forced to, but I also think that saying the Pledge is just respectful towards America, and I don’t really understand why someone wouldn’t want to. Teach-nology Online states that, “the main reason that the Pledge of Allegiance is said in schools is to instill a sense of patriotism amongst students.”

I agree with this source because I don’t think that students are being adequately educated on the lengths that people have and are going to protect our country, and I think that reciting the Pledge shows the much needed patriotism in the classroom.

Some people might think that it is unconstitutional to force children to say the Pledge, and I don’t necessarily disagree. People should have freedom of speech and religion, but I just think that the Pledge should be either announced over a speaker or by the teacher, and that the students should face the flag and recite it. I think that the biggest reason to say the Pledge is for the future of America. If our future generations aren’t patriotic, and don’t love our country the way people used to, I don’t think that our country will reach its full potential.

What is your opinion about the Pledge of Allegiance being said at school?

Do you think that having the Pledge be recited is unconstitutional?

  • Great topic choice Kate! Your summary is well done but I would have liked you to mention the exact reason wehy we have to say the pledge every day. It became law before the 2021-2022 school year here in Iowa. As far as commenting back to students, I do think you could have replied a few more times.

  • I think that the pledge being said at school is an honerable thing to do in every school. I do not think the pledge is unconstitutional because its been around a very long time and is respectful towards our country.

  • I believe the Pledge of Allegiance is a way to honor America and a way to show patriotism. I think it should be required to say because we need to honor our freedom. If someone doesn't want to they need relize how free our country is and how free they are to.

  • I personally do not believe that students should be forced to say the Pledge of Allegiance during school, but I do think that they should give the opprotunity to those who do wish to say it. Those that wish to show respect and gratitude to those that fought for our freedom should be able to do so without forcing those who feel uncomfortable doing so to do it as well.

  • I believe that students should not be forced into saying the Pledge of Allegiance. I believe that the school should encourage it, but if students don't want to then it's their choice. I think that having the Pledge be recited is not unconstitutional because it isn't forcing anything onto people.

  • I believe that kids should not be forced to say the Pledge of Allegiance, but they should be greatly encouraged to do so. The American flag stand for our freedom and sacrifice for it, and not saying the pledge a couple times isn't necessarily disrespectful to America. It also may conflict with certain beliefs that a student or their family has, but they could still be patriotic towards the U.S. Having the Pledge of Allegiance is not unconstitutional because it doesn't force any beliefs onto any student or tells them what to think, it just is a way of showing patriotism.

  • I believe that students should recite the pledge. People go through extraordinary circumstances to protect this nation, and keep us free. I think that we can respect that by saying the Pledge of Allegiance everyday. Yes, it can be annoying when you have a lot to do in class that day, but all it is, is a minute of your day to respect what this country is all about.

  • Yes and No because some people think that it should be recuired and some people dont. Yes its a good thing to do stand for the flag stand for our country. Say the pledge but it also kinda sounds like you are in a cult. I dont wanna step on any toes but me personal I don't say the pledge.

  • I believe the Pledge should be said evey morning out of respect and patriotism for our country. I don't think that the pledge is unconstitutional it's been a traditon for years, saying the pledge is respectful. But some schools need to speed up saying it.

  • I believe that all schools should have the pledge during school. However, our school says it very slow. I do think that our school needs to pick up the pace a little bit. No, the pledge should not be rushed, but it should go a bit faster.
