Reuniting Soldiers with Dogs

Staff Sgt. Edwin Caba fought for 3 years in Afghanistan. While serving he spent many hours without sleep, rushing to eat his food, and staying on guard. One day, a litter of puppies were born at the base and brought lots of relief to many of the soldiers.  Caba said, "You forget that you're halfway across the world, in a desert, with hostile things going on." Soon the soldiers began to feed, bath, and care for the puppies. Caba fell in love with one puppy. He named it Cadence. When he first saw her she was laying on her back with her mouth wide open and her tongue hung out. He new the puppy was just like him. Just a couple months after the puppies were born, Caba was being sent home. He and a few others searched and determined a way to get the dogs back to the US. They found Nowzad Dogs. It's an organization the reunites many soldiers with the dogs they rescued while fighting. The man that found this organization had an experience just like Caba's, which is why he named it Nowzad after his dog. This organization sends the rescued dogs to caring homes of soldiers in America. Caba believes that the dog got him home safely and back to a normal life.

I think this is a great thing to do in return of everything that veterans do for our country.

What are your thoughts on this organization? Do you think animals can help save soldiers and help them stay positive through their experience?

  • Well done!

  • animals love you unconditionally.  I think it is a great organization and would fully support it.  It is good for both soldiers and the dogs.  A win win situation.

    • I think so too!

  • This would help tremendously with veterans, or even soldiers. When a soldier comes back to the US, it's not exactly an easy transition. If they received a puppy a few months into the service, and were allowed to take the animal back with them after, it could help them with potential, mental breakdowns, or anxiety, and if not, it's worth a shot anyway.

    • I think its worth a shot too.

  • I think it is a great organization. I think that animals can do wonders in peoples lives. They know you better than probably any of your family or friends do. Dogs will support you and love you always.

    • Me too. I think animals are a good thing for everybody.

  • I think this is great. I'm sure it brought a lot of happiness to them. They should be able to bring them back, I'm sure they all bonded with the dogs.

    • I think they should be able to too.

  • I think that it's great. Yes, they get their minds off all the bad things going on.
