Punishing a Bully

Edmond Aviv, a sixty-two year old man, receives punishment for being a bully. The man accused of harassing his neighbor and her family for around 15 years was ordered to sit on a street corner and hold up a sign. The judge on the case ordered the sign to read "I AM A BULLY! I pick on children that are disabled, and I am intolerant of those that are different from myself. My actions do not reflect an appreciation for the diverse South Euclid community that I live in." Edmond arrived at the specified street corner in Ohio on Sunday morning around 9 am with his message on the sign. For the past fifteen years, the man has harassed and been very mean to his neighbor and her two adopted children who have disabilities, her husband who has dementia, and her son that is paralyzed. All the mother wishes for is to have peace. Edmond's punishment also included 15 days in jail, anger management and counseling, and the sign on the street corner for six hours.

I think that the judge made a good decision for the man's punishments. Showing his community that he is a bully, and that it is wrong to be a bully is a very wise decision. I hope that the neighbors will eventually become friends and no more bullying will take place. How would you feel if your family was the one being harassed? How do you think the man feels having to sit on the street corner with the sign for six hours?

  • Well done!

  • I would definitely tell someone the first time it happens because no one deserves to be bullied, especially for having kids and a husband that are disabled. I am sure that the man feels embarrassed because he had to stand on the street corner for 6 hours holding that sign, and I am sure that people laughed at him. And I hope that he thinks hard about what he did to these people.

    • I really hopes that he learns from his mistakes.

    • He is being humiliated in public, and that I think is a good of enough punishment.

  • I would probaly beat the person up and why wait like 15 years just tell them right a way

    • I think the neighbors handled it very well, and I hope they don't have any more problems.

  • that's terrible that a grown man wouldn't grow up and except people by now. I think that's a good punishment, but i wish the family would have said something earlier so they didn't have to go through that for so long! If it were my family i wouldn't put up with it that long at all.

    • I agree that the family should have reported it earlier and that a grown man should have definitely been able to accept the differences between people.

  • They should of done something sooner instead of wait 15 years, but I think this is a good punishment.

    • I agree that something should have been done earlier.
