In Iran, thousands of people were protesting the government late Saturday after the Iranian government unintentionally shot down a Ukrainian plane late Wednesday in response to the killing of Gen. Soleimani. The protestors want the person responsible for the crash, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to step downfrom his power. Over 1,000 protestors ripped up pictures of top Iranian official General Qassem Soleimani to show that they are anti-government. Several of the protestors were hit with tear gas and others were beaten leaving them with severe injuries. The protests started at a University where a vigil was being held for 16 Iranian students killed on the flight. They each shouted out "death to the dictator" and "death to liars."

If you lived in Iran would you protest the government for their actions knowing that they could beat you and expose you to tear gas?

I wouldn't protest the Iranian government because it isn't worth protesting if I would get beaten and possibly killed.

Do you agree with the protestors hate towards the Iranian government?

I personally agree that they should hate their government because I wouldn't want my own government to send missiles to other countries to start an unnecessary war.

If you were the Ukrainian president would you want Iran to pay for hitting the Ukrainian plane?

I would say yes, because I wouldn't let it go knowing that the Iranian government is flying missiles in the international airspace putting millions of lives at risk.

  • Good job overall Mason! Be sure to reply back on three different days.

  • While I agree with the protesters hate towards the government, I wouldn't choose to protest. Whoever the protesters were, I would have the utmost respect for. If they were risking their lives just to get their voices heard, I don't think I would be able to do that.

  • I don't think I'm a strong enough person to protest under those conditions.

I think their hate is justified. As the government picks fights with other nations, they risk a war on their own land. Citizens don't want what's happening. The government tried to dodge responsibility for killing 167 people at first, half of which were Iranian citizens.

I don't know if I would want war with Iran. I would want reperations. It depends on if Iran continues to attack like this.

    • I definently agree with you on the first part. The conditions are terrible there. I agree that their hate is justified. At first Iran didn't want to release the recordings from the plane so they tried hiding it which is completely wrong. I would want reperations to pay for those loved ones of the people killed in the plane crash.

  • I agree with you. I wouldn't protest because I would not want to risk my life, or get seriously injured. I agree with the protestors because Iran wasn't thinking when they shot down a plane of innocent people. I wouldn't want to start a war with Iran, but I believe they should pay somehow.

    • I agree, protesting in a place like Iran is very dangerous and you risk being injured or worse, killed. I also agree that you think Iran should pay in a way. They were responsible for killing those people and Ukraine deserves more than just an apology. They could go about this in multiple ways without starting a war with the country of Ukraine.

  • I think that what happened is bad, but I would not risk my life just to protest unless things got worse than they are now. I can understand why they are mad at the government and I agree with them. If I was the Ukrainian president I would want Iran to pay for this because otherwise Ukrainians might get mad.

    • I agree with you 100%. I would be mad like the protestors, but I wouldn't be willing to go out and possibly get killed for hating my own government's actions. I too would want Iran to pay if I was the Ukrainian president, they shouldn't just give an apology and then ignore the situation as if it never happened.

  • I do agree with number one because it is not worth doing all of this if you will get injured of killed. For number 3 I do agree that iran should be punished for shooting down a ukrainian civilian aircraft. However I believe that there should not be too much hate for what iran is doing, sure, they did shoot down a civilian aircraft, but it was said to be an accident in the first place.

    • I agree, the protesting isn't worth the risk of being beaten by the government or even being killed. I do think Iran should pay for shooting down the plane, not with war but with some type of compensation. I disagree with with your thoughts on that there shouldn't be too much hate for Iran. Yes, it was an accident, but they were flying missiles in international airspace with hundreds if not thousands of planes in reach of the missile.
