The first semester test became a thing in the mid 1800s . Semester test are used for making sure students have learned what they should be learning. They are also used for measuring learning process, achievements and to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs.Most schools are required for students to take semester tests. They use the records for the test to use scores on report cards.
Some pros of semester tests. First standarized tests offor objective of education and a good metric to gauge areas for improvment. They also offer meaningful data to help students in marginalized groups. Secondly tests are usuful metrics for teacher evaluations. third of all standardized tests scores are good indicators of college and job success. Semester tests are only worth a small percentage of your grade so if a students are faling a class , the semester test could help get their grades up.
Cons on semester test. Firstly Standardized tests only determin which students are good at taking tests some dont offer meaningful measure of progress and have not improved some students. Secondly tests use unfair metrics for techer evaluations. Almost 16 states and DC have stopped using standardized tests in teacher evaluations. Third of all test scores are ot predictors of students future success. Final exams are easlily the most stressful part of school in both highschool and collage students. They can cause unnecessary anxiety for most students. The stress and feelings would be relieved if finals/semester tests were optional to students.
As you can see their are alot of pros and cons on semester tests. There is alot of positives and negitives on tests and how they affect students and their grades. I think that semester tests can and can not be useful for students. I think semester tests are good for knowning students ability and learning skills.

Sour your topic is fine but the timing is off. This would be better as we near semester tests. I would like to see this more in your own words. It seems very technical. Make it your own in your own words. Your topic is smester tests but then list some pros and cons of standardized tests, which are different.

I think that semester tests can be very stressful for students but it is a good way for teachers to see how you have been understanding the class and what you need to improve on. If there are going to be questions on the test about small details than I think students should be aloud to use their notes. Having just the main idea would be less stressful for the students.
I think that semester test are a bad way of testing students. Semester test's are very stressful for every student and can a lot of the time, make or brake their grade. Some students also aren't good testers and just do well over homework. Overall, semester testing is a very poor way of wanting to know what students have learned in that time period.
I like the semester test because it is a chance to up your semester grade depening on what your sitting at in the class, also it will show how much each student learned in the two quarters of the semester finals.
I personally do believe that semester tests are a good tool for teachers to test how well their students have learned the subject. However, I do think that semester test should be more concept based and less specific information based. I think that it is unrealistic to expect students to remember random details from months prior.

However, I think that semester tests should only test on the main concepts of what was learned in class that year. Students won't remember every little thing they learned in class, but if the teacher taught the main concepts well it willl be reflected in the test scores.

I think that having semester test are not something schools should do. In the semester we already have how many test a month to follow up on our knowledge so that should be enough, test already put enough stress on students as is.
