Officer shot and killed a black person

A white officer(Betty Shelby) was charged in the  shooting of an unarmed Black motorist(Terence Crutcher) last year. The officer is scheduled to stand trial next month on a felony of manslaughter. If she is found guilty then she will have to serve 4 years in prison. Betty's first public comment since her arrest  said  Terence kept putting his hands  in his pockets and when she told him to stop moving He starting reaching for something in the vehicle. Betty was scared he went for a gun so she shot him. In an interview with Betty she said He was acting strange and she wonder if he was on PCP.

1.Do you think her actions were justified?

I can she why she did it but she should handled it better instead of shooting him

2.Do you think 4 year is long enough time in jail?

I think if she is found guilty the she should spend way more time than 4 years in prison

  • I think she should have shot him if he was doing those things but I don't think it was necessary to shoot to kill unless you see a gun. I don't think she should be put in jail for doing her job.

  • she was compleatly in the wrong here. he could be going for a piece of gum. or his wallet. no she murdered this man in cold blood. this was wrong and she should have at least 15 years.

  • Her actions could possibly be justified because he could've been reaching for a gun but she should've waited another second to see what it was or tased him. She could've at least pulled the gun and waited to shoot. I agree, if she is found guilty, this is manslaughter and that is a felony that is punishable by at least 30 years.

  • I think maybe, but she shouldn't just shoot to like solve anything. I think 4 years is long enough.

    • I agree with you that she should not shoot to solve the problem. I not an expert on how long someone should be in prison but for years seems a little short. I think she should serve at least 10 years.

  • I agree with you on that. I think that she should be found guilty. as once again i agree and way more time than only 4 years in prison

  • Yeah, but you didn't have to use a Gun she could've used a taser, they do have those right. No, it should definitely be way longer since she killed a person regardless if she was scared try to aim to disarm not to kill unless it is absolutely necessary.

  • I think she was acting on self defense because she felt in danger. I honestly have no clue how long she should should serve time in jail, but four years is probably good.

  • 1. I think that she should've thought about what she was doing before she shot. She should've thought of a better action to take.

    2. I don't think that 4 years is long enough. I think that if guilty she should serve more time.
