Nichole Cevario had a dairy like any other typical high school student but until the diary was read it was not typical. Lots of diaries deal with high school drama and other normal things such as school work. Nichole on the other hand was planning a mass shooting at a local Maryland high school she attended. The parents were alarmed by this and let the police know which led to a search of the home. A shotgun as well as pipe bombs were made by the teen. The teen talked to school counselors to know the evacuation of school shootings so she could block them off. She now faces 2 charges with one of them letting her in prison for a minimum of 25 years and was taken to a mental hospital.

Questions...

What would you do if you found this in your child's diary?

Do you think she deserves more or less than 25 years in prison?

My opinion...

I believe she should be put in prison for 30 years or less if she shows improvement of her mental set up. If I found this in my child's diary than I would call the police right away and watch her every move until the police get to where they need to be.

  • Great job overall! Be sure to comment on three different days.

  • It’s absolutely horrifying to think that you’re own child would be capable of such appalling thoughts and actions. I would instantaneously call the authorities. They may be my child, but blood relationship is never an excuse for covering up a potential mass murder. I don’t completely believe she deserves to go to prison. Many jails don’t offer mental treatments; she needs to be taken to a mental institution where she can get the help she needs.

  • I would alert the police like these parents did. They did the right thing in going to the police with this information. I think that maybe only 20 years because she didn't go through with it. She had gotten so into it that I feel she would of gone through with it given the time to.

  • I think that i would call the police, and i would watch her, to make sure that she does't do anything to harm herself or others in the home. I think that she deserves time, but after she goes through her treatment, I think that she should get maybe 5-10 years, because she really didn't do anything, she was planning.

  • I would be scared and i would call the police to make sure that she doesnt do anything

I think 25 years is fair because what she was planning to do was terrible

  • I would be shocked, very disappointed and sad. I would probably report it to the police before interfering myself. I would feel like I failed as a parent. The kind of cases are hard to evaluate with out having all the information and knowing the criminal personally. She definitely needs to go to a mental hospital at least for a little while. The actual prison sentence seems kind of long for only planning to do it, but at the same time I can see it as reasonable.

  • If I found this in my child's diary, I would immediately call the police. I think that her mental problems should be dealt with first before she serves time, or that treatment should be offered while in jail. She should go to jail, but 25 years might be too much. Then again, if she actually would have gone through with it... Anyway, maybe her time in jail should depend on her mental progress.

  • I would immediately call the police. I think this kid has some serious mental issues, and needs to be hospitalized, not thrown in jail. Throwing her in jail could make her mental state even worse.

  • I would certainly call the police for a search of my home. I would let the police do their thing and then talk to my child about what is going on. I think her sentence is kinda crap. She should just stay in a mental hospital until she is feeling better.

  • I would be pretty shocked to find this in any kids diary let alone my own but none the less would still contact police because it is not a light situation. I am split about the sentence because it is along time and a number of things could have lead her to do this. High school can be a stressful time and she may have been bullied a lot leading to her building up a lot of anger towards the school community.
