Mystery of the Bermuda Triangle Solved?

The Bermuda Triangle is an infamous area in the North Atlantic between Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and the tip of Florida, where for centuries, many boats, such as the S.S. Cyclops, planes, such as Flight 19, and people were reported to have mysteriously disappeared. As briefly mentioned in this video, even Christopher Columbus noticed that something was up with that place.

A pair of meteorologists speaking to Science Channel's "What on Earth?" believe they have found the explanation of the Bermuda triangle in hexagonal-shaped clouds found on satellite imagery, standing out compared to the usual randomly-shaped clouds. These were located on the western tip of the Bermuda Triangle. They are sorts of "air bombs", as described by Dr. Randy Cerveny of Arizona State University. They form microbursts, which are blasts of air that come down from the clouds and hit the ocean as fast as 170 mph. These blasts would knock planes out of the sky as well as create very large waves that would spell certain doom to any nearby ships. Satellites continue to search for more of these clouds, so we can tell when microbursts have been created, as such information could save lives.

Original Story

  • What do you think of this theory? Do you think it explains all those disappearances, or do you think there's something more that it's missing?
  • How do you think these scientists could test this theory?

I feel like this is a pretty good theory, but there are still some things that remain unexplained, such as why the compasses and other instruments in the planes and ships malfunctioned shortly before the disappearances.

I feel like the only practical way this theory can really be tested is through further observation, keeping an eye out for those clouds on satellite imagery and see if there's a connection between those clouds and microbursts in the area.

  • Great story choice and well done!!

  • I think this is a believable theory. It's not yet complete, and I'm curious to know more. The scientist should make note of everything and calculate every possible thing, because the smallest detail might be the key to solving this mystery. It will be difficult, but I'm confident that someone will find the answer.

    • I agree! This theory is definitely in its early stages, but it's plausible. I also agree that even the smallest of details could make the biggest difference, and that they should all be taken into thought. I would also love to learn more about this once more is discovered!

  • His theory sounds believable and some of it doesn't, but it could be true. Everyone can be proven wrong, or the image could be a fake. The scientest could go there, or maybe do some tests on surrounding areas and see what is so different.

    • I agree that the areas immediately surrounding this area should be tested as well. I also agree that the theory isn't perfect, but based on this evidence, it's one of the best theories surfaced so far.

  • Myself, i'm not sure, everyone has their own theory .  To test this theory you could find a "airbomb" and try to go through it by flying, or sailing through it.

    • Yeah, no one can be absolutely positive of anything, there could always be a new theory that arises and trumps this one. However, instead of personally sailing/flying through airbombs, it would be much safer for them to send drones out there instead.

  • I personally think there is something more mysterious happening in that part of the world, but they are welcome to test their theories with science. Perhaps if they sent a drone or remote controlled ship into one of these air pockets they can discover the truth.

    • Good thinking with sending a drone out there, that could definitely help with observation. I agree that there's still something mysterious about that place, as this theory doesn't explain every detail of all these disappearances, but I don't really think it's anything to do with the extraterrestrial or paranormal or anything. I think they are examples of some scientific phenomenons that we don't understand yet, but will understand in the future through further study.
