More Protesting in Chicago

At around 11 am on Friday, November 27, a giant mob of protesters crowded Chicago's downtown shopping district. The goal of the protesters was to block shop entrances until certain police officials stepped down. (Yes, they actually thought that would work). The protesters carried umbrellas and plastic wrapped signs along the Magnificent Mile which would usually be crowded with shoppers on Black Friday. Of the hundreds of protesters, some tried to block entrances to stores while police formed a human barricade at other locations. Employees at some stores were instructing shoppers to exit out the side doors. If the customer wanted to leave through the front door they would be welcomed with screams of "SHUT IT DOWN, SHUT THAT DOOR DOWN." The protests were triggered by a video released of Laquan McDonald being shot 16 times by a Chicago police officer. That officer turned himself in on Tuesday and was ordered held without bond on a count of first degree murder.

What would you do if you were in one of the stores when the protest started?

Do you think the protesters had a good point? Why or why not?

  • I would have attempted to get my stuff and leave quickly but I would have left without it if needed to...

  • if i was in the store i would get my stuff and leave as quick as i could, yes black Friday is very dangerous now a days because people will do anything just to get what they want.

  • I would do everything in my power to get shoppers out of the store just in case the protesters get violent. No because there are good police officers and they are just trying to do what is right.

  • If I was in one of those stores I would be very annoyed with all the noise but I do understand what they are doing.

I think they did have a good point but I dont understand why right there why not do it at the police station or something.

  • I would be pretty freaked out if I was in one of the stores when the protests started. I would try to leave as quickly as possible without attracting attention from the protesters. I would leave out of a side or back door probably. I am kind of still confused about why they were protesting. I know that the person was shot, but why was the person shot? Was he shot for shopping? Otherwise I think it's weird that they stormed and tried to shut down the shops. Plus, it wasn't really going to work because the stores are going to get customers in an out somehow.

  • I would try and leave and be like bye felicia! yes i think they did they could have sat in the mall so they couldnt do anything

  • I would try to leave, They did have a good point but I think they could've had a better idea other than a human blockade.

  • I would try to get out of the store if they started protesting while I was in there.

  • I would probably be very scared, and probably a little angry. Because what does me shopping in a store have anything to do with someone getting shot. I think that had a good point, but maybe just a different time or place would have been better.
