Iowa's new gun laws

On March 14 a new gun law was passed for Iowa. The bill includes a "stand your ground" provision that says a law-abiding person does not have a duty to retreat before using deadly force. It would also allow people under age 21 to possess a pistol or revolver while under direct supervision of a parent or guardian who is at least 21 years old. It would create a uniform permit to carry weapons and provides for five-year permits to acquire handguns rather than single-year permits.

Questions

how do you feel about this law?

do you feel it is ok to protect your home family and property or let the robber do what ever they want

my opinion i think this is a good law because can protect your family and your house. if some one tried to enter my house with intent on robbing me or threaten me i would try to stop them to protect me my family and my house.

  • Good job overall! Be sure to capitalize letter that should be in your title and summary.

  • Honestly this is kind of scary. Having more options with more guns and not as intense laws makes being able to use a gun a lot easier. I do think it is okay to be able to protect your family and property but is still quite nerve racking knowing that there is a weapon in your home.

  • I think this law is amazing, All sates in my opinion should have this law to where they can shoot an intruder with out going to jail. They are on your property so you have the right to defend it. I feel it is the duty of an American to defend his family, country and his property.

  • I feel like it is a valid law and that it should have been put into place and talked about sooner.

I feel like it is perfectly OK to protect your family and your property because it is yours and if someone is willing to take it they should accept the consequence of their life it needs be. If they are armed then really I would rather have to hurt or kill them than have them kill me or my family.

  • 1) I think there are many pros and cons to it but is a good law to pass. It allows people to acquire more protection.

    2) Definitely more importantly to protect your family and make sure they're safe. The robber is the one who is trespassing and should expect nothing less than people defending their home.

  • In a personal level this is a very touchy subject and i don't agree with this law. I have never been a pro gun law person myself and all for the right reasons. With all the outbreaks that have been set just in the course of the couple of months following january, i don't think this law should have been passed. imagine a teenager like myself, who gets a fast heartbeat from just the door closing when i am by myself at home. what if my parents walk home without saying "i am home " like they usually do? what if it's the cleaning lady who just decided to show up a little later because of her sick baby? my first instinct? shot. that is too much power to be put in the hands of some grow ups let alone under age kids. if we it's not allowed to drink or smoke because "it's bad for or health" when we are under age, why would we be given a weapon that can cost a life?

  • I feel this is a good law that can protect your families and other people in the neighborhood. I feel everyone that is capable should stand up to the robber and have some self defense towards the robber. Guns would be perfect and would help stop the robber at least until the cops come.

  • I think that this law is good because it allows people to be able to legally defend themselves. I feel like you should be able to protect yourself or your property whenever you feel is necessary.

  • I think that the law could be beneficial for people who feel like they need some sort of protection in case anything were to happen to them, but it also could end up being bad if people start taking advantage of this and causing more violence. I think that everyone has the right to protect their family, possessions, and themselves.

  • I think that people should have the right to bear arms; everyone should be able to protect themselves from danger. It's not just the gun itself that kills people, people kill people. The person behind that gun is making that decision. Some people are psychotic, and you can't really change all of the crazy people in the world. I think that the law is good, but a lot of people will probably be opposed to it.
