International Day of Happiness

The United Nations declared March 20 to be International Day of Happiness, and with that being last Friday a survey of the happiest countries in the world was brought to attention. The top 5 happiest countries are; Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Netherlands and Sweden. "The happiest of countries -- many of which are in Scandinavia according to the most recent World Happiness Report -- have a robust combination of higher life expectancy, gross domestic product per capita, social support, generosity, freedom to make life choices and lower perceptions of corruption."

1) Would you rather live in one of these countries or stay here in America? Why?

2) What do you think would need to be changed here in the United States to get it on that list?

  • Great job!!

  • I would 100% rather stay in america, this is the greatest country on earth and I will never leave. I really think theses surveys are a bunch of crap and i believe america is the happiest best country  on this earth.

  • I think it would neat to visit one of these countries but not live in them. There are ups and downs of America but overall it's a pretty decent place to live. I wonder how they decided this.

    • I agree and I would hate living in a big city, but I think the way of life here in rural Iowa is pretty great.

  • I would much rather live in a country like Switzerland. Aside from the happiness rating, Switzerland is one of the most free countries in the world. Even during the world wars they were neutral. For 'Murica to get on the list, we would have to get rid of most of the people in it.

    • Interesting point of view. Just ship everyone off to different countries. I think America is the way it is because so many different people from different cultures immigrated here and their ways of life were just mashed together and it didn't turn out so well.

  • I feel like I would want to live in one of the other countries. America is a great country, but it is full of anger, and hate. And I think that people have to live what they preach. People say that they want people to be nicer, and to love everybody for who they are. But not many people actually do that.

    • I totally agree with you. Too many people are hypocritical.

  • I would stay in America, I like the freedom we have. I think we need more people to go around and want this.

  • I'm an american and I want to stay in america. Its the place for me and im free. I think we need less violence and poor people to be able to get on that list.
