Gun Control In The United States

There are about 77.49 million gun owners (that's about 30% of adult Americans) in the US as of 2020 and over the past few years, there have been many changes to gun laws in the United States. There are many different opinions on the laws that have been made. For example, some people think they infringe the Second Amendment, others think that we need gun control to regulate gun violence, and some people think firearms make us safer.

The second amendment states “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”  Due to mass shootings in the United States, President Joe Biden passed the most major gun law in decades. However, this law failed to ban any weapons but it did increase funding for school safety and security to help lower the number of death by gun violence.

In many cases, elected officials have made comments on firearms that are “inaccurate”. Many firearm experts have expressed that many gun control laws are made based on "inaccurate" data by non-gun experts people. There are many different opinions on this topic and many articles that can be read on this topic.

Another topic is that many people want to push for a repeal of the 2nd Amendment, to end gun violence in the US. With the number of gun owners, it would be hard to take everyone's firearms if that did happen.

What do you think about the United States gun control laws?  Do you think that gun control is unconstitutional, why? And do you think the 2nd Amendment should be repealed?

  • Great topic choice Austin! I do thin your summary is brief overall for a huge topic like this. You mention how there have been gun laws passed. What are they? What did they do? I am not aware of any actually that congress passed. Be sure to cite your sources as well.

You also need to be sure to comment more frequently. You should have had about fifteen comments back to students.

Again, good topic that had a lot of good discussion!

  • I do not think guns should be restricted. People will always find a way to get their hands on them no matter what. It is in the constitution for a reason. Not only do people use them for self defense but to hunt and do other fun things as well. They are very important to our society and should be allowed for everyone that passes a backgrond check and has a license.

  • In my opinion, guns should not be restricted. Guns are like drugs people will always be able to find a way to get them if they really want them bad enough. if someone tries to shoot at something or someone than other people with guns will be able to stop them.

  • I think that gun control should be in place. I believe that American's have the right to have guns, but do we really need military grade guns? Any gun can kill someone, so I don't understand why a lot of people are freaking out about law makers wanting to ban military grade weapons.

  • I think that gun control should be in place and that many of the tragic shootings happen due to the wrong people having guns. I don't think it is unconstitutional for gun control to be in place because it regulates how many people use and accuire their arms.

  • I think that the laws were good the way they were. Just a simple background check and a permit should allow you to own a firearm. I see gun control from both perspectives but, I think that they need to lay off a bit. If someone got robbed infront of you and you have a gun on you, you could scare them off. The 2nd amendment shouldn't be repealed becuase that set this country up from the beging.

  • I think putting safer laws on gun control would be best but taking away all guns. I dont think it should be repealed but I think should be veiwed differently because the world is not the same as when the second amendment was written I think theirs some things about the second amendment and the laws surrounding it that should be changed because America is not as simple as when the country was first started.

  • I think that guns should be allowed at all times. I also think that the 2nd Amendment should not be repealed because the first 10 Amendements are some of the most important Amendements. I also think that if we dont have guns then what would this world be?

  • I think that the 2nd amendment should be praised because if we aren't allowed to have guns then how would we defend ourselves if someone was a terrorist and brought guns from another country how would we defend ourselves. Also without guns how are cops going to take down major criminals?

  • I don't think the government should be able to take away all of our guns. I think they should have better laws for having guns just don't take them away. I believe that you have to show a clean record before you can purchase a gun. If not it could get very out of hand.
