Girl dies in British theme park Accident

An 11-year-old girl on a school trip died after she fell from a water ride at a UK theme park, local police have confirmed. The incident happened at the Splash Canyon ride at Drayton Manor theme park, north of Birmingham, Staffordshire Police said.

Bryan added that staff were alerted when the girl fell into the water. "The theme park staff tried to help her and an air ambulance airlifted her to a hospital nearby," he said.  The girl, a student at the Jameah Academy in Leicester, was on a school visit to the park when the incident occurred. The school released a statement confirming that the year 6 student had died. The park would remain closed Wednesday "as a mark of respect to the family," a statement on the park's Facebook page said. It did not specify how long the ride in question would be suspended.

Questions
1. Do you think it was the park staff careless that the girl fell? And why?

2. Was it enough punishment for the ride to be suspended? why and why not?

3. Would you take a child to this park to ride a water ride?
I think It was the staff careless because they have to make sure that the girl was in a good secured positioned before making her ride the thingy, and after all she was so little she needed much attention towards her. I think it was enough punishment for the ride to be suspended because they feel bad about it and they have learnt their lesson considering the accident. The staffs in to be more extra careful to kids. I won't take a child to ride it again.

  • I would probably say the staff is that ones to blame because it is there job to watch after the rides and the paths of the parks. I think it was enough punishment for the ride to be suspended because they felt bad about it. I would probably not take my kid there to ride it after hearing about this.

    • I think at a waterside park it is very important that the guards are very attentive. I also think it is hard to save someone on a ride like that. They need to have some sort of stopping system so they can effectively save someone.  I would also agree that I would not take my kid there after something like this. I would give it time for them to fix the problem.

      • I think it could've been the guard's fault and their lack of attention to the passengers on the ride. I agree with Fay that they need a sort of stopping system to save someone if another accident like this were to occur.

  • I think it is the staff fault. But, accidents happen and sometimes those accidents lead you down a long wrong path. Yes i think the ride should be suspended and also think that they need to give that ride up for a while. I know that if I knew something like this happened I would not want to ride on that ride.

    • I totally agree with you and that is was not the staffs fault what are they supposed to do. I agree that they did the right thing on suspending the ride for a little bit, but i still think they still should have made sure they there wasn't a piece off or that it was okay to still ride. same but maybe after a while i would give the ride another chance.

  • Most of the blame falls onto the staff because it's there job and duty to make sure all guests are strapped and secure in their seats so they don't fall out nor have anything happen to them.

    • I agree when you say this but you also have to consider the fact that the ride should not be able to move anywhere unless all safety precautions are secured. The staff members should look very closely but with technology these days you really shouldn't have to rely completely on the staff members and the ride should have certain things that restrict the ride from moving until everyone is strapped in.

  • I think that the park was careless for not making sure that the little girl was strapped in on the ride all of the way, before she rode it. I feel like the punishment was fine for the incident, because it wasn't a malfunction with the ride it was because of a careless act by an employee. After hearing about this I would not want to take my child to ride this ride.

  • I don;t think that the staff necessarily caused this death, it was most likely the ride itself, but it possibly could have been the staff not taking the proper safety processions. I think that the ride should be checked over for safety before anyone gets back on it and that could be a while. I would take my child to this park but I wouldn't let them ride the water ride that the girl died on.

  • I  think the park staff should be more careful but it really isn't their fault. I think the ride should be reinspected for safety but there really isn't a lot they could have done.
