Girl dies in British theme park Accident

An 11-year-old girl on a school trip died after she fell from a water ride at a UK theme park, local police have confirmed. The incident happened at the Splash Canyon ride at Drayton Manor theme park, north of Birmingham, Staffordshire Police said.

Bryan added that staff were alerted when the girl fell into the water. "The theme park staff tried to help her and an air ambulance airlifted her to a hospital nearby," he said.  The girl, a student at the Jameah Academy in Leicester, was on a school visit to the park when the incident occurred. The school released a statement confirming that the year 6 student had died. The park would remain closed Wednesday "as a mark of respect to the family," a statement on the park's Facebook page said. It did not specify how long the ride in question would be suspended.

Questions
1. Do you think it was the park staff careless that the girl fell? And why?

2. Was it enough punishment for the ride to be suspended? why and why not?

3. Would you take a child to this park to ride a water ride?
I think It was the staff careless because they have to make sure that the girl was in a good secured positioned before making her ride the thingy, and after all she was so little she needed much attention towards her. I think it was enough punishment for the ride to be suspended because they feel bad about it and they have learnt their lesson considering the accident. The staffs in to be more extra careful to kids. I won't take a child to ride it again.

  • no it was not their falt. it happens to even disney people have died on their rides. it could have been and probibly was just a freak accedent. the ride should be investigated no dougt but when they fix what was wrong it should be reopened.

  • I agree. It was their fault because before you go on a ride the staff comes by checks that everyone is secure and people are practically putting their lives in staff members hands for having to okay that they are secure... People do make mistakes in life and have to learn from the consequences but I think its in every way the staffs fault. I the people working the ride should be suspended along with the ride.

    • I agree, the staff is in complete control of the safety of the guests at the park. Accidents at amusement parks happen frequently because they are already dangerous places with all of the machinery. Trusting that someone has you strapped into a ride that goes 100 feet in the air is a lot of trust to put on someone. The staff at these parks need to be more careful with each individual there, so they deserve to be suspended also.

  • I think that the rides should be checked day in and day out by the staff. I think it was enough punishment because the people didn't know that the ride would malfunction. I would never take my child to a water park until they were older.

    • If you think about it, all rides should be tested before it opens and after is closes to make sure everything is up to date. A thorough greasing would probably help the rides run smoother which i guarantee they do not do because of the lack of "energy".

      • I agree, all rides should be tested before being used. Having them greased over every so often wouldn't be a bad idea either. A family should never have to go through something like this from a school event even. Some parks tend to get very lazy with their work and that is so sad and dangerous.

  • Bump

  • I think that the park staff is somewhat to be blamed because their rides should be safe and up to date. There is a chance that this could have been the girls fault. Perhaps she was rocking in the ride or messing around. I think it was enough of a punishment to suspend the ride because they need to update the safety of the ride for future continuation. I would take them to the park but maybe not that ride. Then again. you never know about the soundness of a ride at a theme park, so a lot of cases are risky.

    •  I agree the cause could have gone either way. I think there could have been a little more punishment done just for the family's sake of things. Maybe the park had cameras near that area to see if the girl was messing around.. But I don't know why she would if she could have put her life endanger.

      • I also agree that this is a tricky situation and it could be either of the party's fault. Now all they should be worrying about is letting the family grieve and fixing their possibly faulty ride even if it causes them to lose some money in the process. Safety comes first, always.
