Ethiopian Woman films maid falling from window

A woman in Ethiopia is facing charges after she released a video where her domestic worker falls from the window. The woman says she was recording a meal she had prepared when her daughter told her that the worker was climbing from the window. She claims to have ran to the window while still filming. The worker can be heard yelling "Hold me! Hold me!" before losing her grip and falling onto a small canopy. She broke her arm but is otherwise in good shape. The woman filming has said that she didn't help because the maid was too heavy and she didn't want to fall too. The owner of the house claims there was no abuse or reason for the maid to have wanted to escape. She is facing charges for filming and releasing footage without consent.

What would you have done if you were the owner?

Do you think the charges pressed were fair?

I think the charges were unfair because the maid could have died. I would have helped the worker.

  • Good overall but be sure to reply three different days.

  • I think what happened is reasonable like how are you supposed to help when it already happened.. Like if the maid was out of the window already and if the fall wasn't that far then I wouldn't worry about it.

  • I would have just dropped the phone and ran to go help and then i would ask her if she was okay. I think the charges were unfair because you never know what could have happened if she didn't land on the canopy.

  • I think the owner should have made sure everything thing was up to date and safe. I think the charges are fair because she could have helped her even though she was filming. Personally, I would have helped the worker.

  • I would've tried to help if not able to afterwards I would make sure it wouldn't happen again. Yes, she had no right to release a video without consent of the worker.

  • If I was the owner I would make sure that everything was occupied with safety precautions so that something like this doesn't happen. I think the charges were fair because she was filming it while she could've tried helping her.

  • If someone's life was in danger, why you you go over there with your phone still in your hand? Of course she couldn't help her because she was still recording! I thinks the charges are fair for sure but seriously, people and their technology can get in the way of things. What if there wasn't a canopy and she hit the ground and died? That women would probably feel terrible for recording it.

    • Do you think the woman wanted her to fall? Maybe she wouldn't feel bad because the maid tried to escape.

  • If I were the owner I would put a safety measure there or lock the windows. I think the charges pressed were fair because she didn't have consent to film the video and probably still could've helped.

    • The maid was trying to escape, do you think it would be the same situation if the maid hadn't tried to run away?
