Dog Dies In Overhead Bin On United Airlines

A tragic loss on Monday night occurred on United Airlines when a flight attendant insisted on putting a dog in an overhead bin. A family traveling that night boarded a plane, having followed all the regulations and rules to keep their pet on the flight with them is intruded by a United flight attendant who abruptedly insisted on the family placing the dog carrier, dog inside, in the overhead bin. The dog had been traveling with a woman who also had her younger daughter and baby with her. United claims it was a "tragic accident" in an apology letter written to the family. When the plane landed the family came across a terrifying tragedy that the dog had died. United claimed "that should never have occurred, as pets should never be placed in the overhead bin." The family now continues to attempt to attract the media to bring more attention to this.

1) How would you react if a flight attendant told you to put your pet in an overhead bin? Would you?

My Answer- No, never. I would even get off the flight, and attempt to get my money back. Then find another way to my destination.

2) If this did occur to you, and all you received was an apology letter, what would you do? Would you accept it?

My Answer- I would pursue to sue United and expect definite changes. Even the flight attendant fired.

3) Have you ever boarded a plane traveling with an animal?

My Answer- No, and I don't plan to as I feel animals should not be on planes.

  • Well done Paityn!

  • I would probably listen to the flight attendant and put my pet in the overhead bin, but I would have to make sure that it was safe and my pet wasn't going to suffocate. I would be sad that my pet had died, but I don't feel that there was much else that the flight attendent could do other than send an apology letter. I wouldn't have brought my pet onto the plane in the first place, it isn't a very smart idea.

  • I'd try to convince her not to put my dog there, but I'd probably do it if there was no other option. After this occurrance, I won't let my dog go up there. I proabably wouldn't take my dog on an airplane trip though. I would definitely expect a bit more compensation than just an apology letter. I have never traveled with a dog.

  • I wouldn't put my pet in the overhead bin, I would tell them that I wouldn't do that. I would be really upset, but I don't think I would do anything, I would move on. No I have not boarded a plane with an animal

  • I personally have never had a strong connection with a pet like many people, but I would like to think that I would never put a pet in the overhead bin. If this did happen to me, I would be extremely upset with the loss of the animal, and consider the apology letter as the VERY least that the airlines could do. I would not accept the apology.

  • 1. NO. I would not do that because the airflow would be limited and the dog will need air to breathe plus I wouldn't just show my dog is a bin for an entire flight.

    2. I would sue the flight attendant for making me put my dog in the overhead bin because the lady should have known it was dangerous

    3. NO I haven't taken an animal on a plane before.

  • I mean how did the dog die? Was it because of the overhead bin or was it becuase of something else. First of all I wouldn't want to ever take an animal on the airplane with me. I'd rather not. I don't think I would put my animal into the overhead bin because that's like abuse.

    • The dog had died because it was put into an overhead bin where oxygen level is low and it's not in a safe part of the plane, which brings the next question: what was the flight attendant thinking in doing this?

  • I would never put my pet in an overhead bin, if the flight attendant told me this I would probably try to get off the plane to find another way to wherever I was going. I would be very upset and probably try to get the flight attendant fired. No, I have never boarded a plane with one of my pets, and I don't plan to anytime soon.

    • I think which is what most would do. Do you think the airline would be at fault as well? Considering they did train the flight attendant how to work. They would be at fault for some of this.
