Do Electric Vehicles Reduce The Risk Of Climate Change?

Electric vehicles(EVs) have been known to lower greenhouse gas emissions. They are also supposed to help lower the risk of climate change. But do they help? EVs are cars powered by electric motors with lithium batteries or a fuel cell. When talking about EVs many think about Elon Musk and Tesla. But, did you know the idea sprung up over 100 years ago. There are different kinds of EVs. Such as, plug-in hybrids, battery-electric, or any other type that you plug in. Electric vehicles are cleaner than conventional ones. This is because EVs don’t produce exhaust. The vehicle and source of electricity determines how clean it is. When using renewable energy EVs can be emission free. All in all, EVs can help lower the risk of climate change than conventional vehicles.

EVs seem more clean for the environment, but I think that they are not helping to their full capacity. My thinking is that most electricity is powered by oil. Which means that every time you go to recharge you are more than likely burning oil. But if you are using renewable energy then EVs would be helping the environment. Although EVs are better for the environment I would not want one because I like gas vehicles. I like the smell, the sound, and the looks of gas cars over EVs.

Do you think that electric cars help the environment?

Would you ever want to get an electric vehicle?

  • Good topic choice and well done overall Ethan. I do think your summary could be a bit longer.

  • No, I do not think electric cars help the envirnoment unless absolutely everyone in the world had one. You are still using fuel in many other parts of the world so it would take a lot of work. I personally would not get an electric car. I do not think they would help enough and they are very expensive.

  • I don't think that it should be required for everyone to drive electric cars. People think it will help with pollution but they still have to make the batteries for the cars and that is worse than driving. If everyone had electric cars tho I think that it might help a little bit.

  • I think electric vechiles is pretty good for the enviorment it would be better than most of the cars being used today. And it seems theres only good things in store for the future of electric vechiles as they keep getinng designed and created better.

    • I agree that they are slighty helping the environment and slowing down climate change. I also agree that there will be plenty of advancments along they the way. I also would consider getting one if they reduced cost and improved how clean they actually are.

    • I agree that they have some potential but, they are working against themselves by burning gas and diesel at the charging stations. I also agree that they are quite expensive and are not the only reason. I would consider getting one if they were cheaper and if they were improved in the future.

  • I think that EVs are a good thing for the environment because they don't produce emmissions. But they do also using electricity, which is comes from a powerplant,  to charge batteries so that is negative. I would not drive an EV because I don't want to charge a battery every time I drive somewhere. Plus, I don't want pay more money for an EV than I would if I bought a gas car.

    • I agree that EVs are a good thing for the environment since they have no emissions. I also agree that they are working against themeselves by using gas and diesel to charge them. I agree they are very pricey and they can be quite the pain.

  • Yes, I do believe that EV’s do 100% help the environment. As a person whose family actually owns one I do in fact believe that they help the environment with climate change. Which most people don’t pay attention to. Ok I get it big gas vehicles like trucks and other vehicles the sound and the smell is good, but it is extremely unsafe for the environment. Like I said, I live in a family that actually owns an EV and I personally wouldn’t mind owning one when I get older and can afford it. It's a good feeling when you're driving in a car that is actually better for the environment.

  • I think that electric cars can help the environment. However, I don't think that they are the end solution if we think about eco-friendly transportion in the future. We definetly need to overthink transportation considering climate change. Electric cars are probably one part of becoming more sustainable.
