Convicted killer TJ Lane escaped and captured

TJ was a convicted killer that had shot and killed 3 students in a high school in Ohio. TJ had escaped Allen Oak-wood Correctional Institution in Lima, Ohio with two other fugitives. Police asked for extra patrol to help spread word to lock doors and to stay inside. They also sent patrol to the families of TJ's victims.  TJ was found 6 hours later 100 yards from a church and when found didn't say a word or resist.  Correctional Institution Inspection Committee report in April said that the facility was overcapitalized by about 200 inmates, and attacks on staff rose 60% over the past year. These conditions could have allowed their escape.

How do you think TJ had escaped?

Do you think prisons should have more security?

  • Your first question is hard to answer and really isn't importnat. Good second question. Be sure to hyperlink correctly next time as well.

  • I believe that prison security should be more efficient, and that if a prisoner attempts a violent attack on prison staff, he should be assigned the death penalty. Gangs should not be allowed to continue their activities in prison, and prisoners found organizing these group should be broken up and reprimanded. If you violently attack another prisoner with the intent to kill them, death sentence. If found producing and distributing contraband, reprimanded. If found making graffiti, death sentence. If you start making toilet wine, reprimanded. Wait, scratch that graffiti thing. That is a little too harsh.

    • I kind of agree. I think you are right about the, "if you violently attack another prisoner with the intent to kill them, death sentence." And also about the gangs in prison. They need to be broken up.

  • I don't know how he escaped, but yes prisons should have a lot more security. They are there to keep people who have made bad choices away from the real world. They need to be kept inside prison. If prisoners can breakout easily there isn't enough security.

  • For all anyone knows, he could have just walked out the door or out some window. It is probably so full that the workers their can't control them all. It isn't the lack of security I don't think, it is the amount of inmates there. There is a lot of them and they are overcapitalized by 200. He could have been one of those 200 who just happened to get past security.

  • Probably did it at the change of the guard and yes prisons should have more security and also switch up the movement of the guards and the change of the guards time every now and then.

  • That is really scary considering he is a murderer... I think that prison should be better and obviously have more control.

  • I think that he had other people help him that have been in there a few years and knew the weaknesses and tough places in the prison. When the time came they helped him get all the supplies he needs and helped him escape. I think that they have enough security but sometimes i think they should have like 2 or 3 barriers or walls to secure them in the prison.

    • I somewhat agree because even though they have good security they still escaped. Plus it only took 3 people to figure out the system. Imagine if all the inmates did the same.

  • I think him and his friends made a plan to escape by maybe starting a fight with the security guards and they just ran out.

I think it depends on the prison. if it is over populated then I think it should have a little more security.
