The Sewol ferry sank (I'm not sure where). The captain was among the first to be rescued along with some other crew members. The passengers however were told to stay put which led to many deaths. There is no international law or rule saying that the captain must go down with the ship, and unfortunately there have been cases like this in the past (in South Korea it's against the law). "Yes, the captain and 14 other Sewol crew members have been arrested amid ongoing investigations. They all face charges of "causing death by abandoning (ship), and violation of the country's marine law, the Rescue and Aid at Sea and in the River Act,"." Why do you think the crew did what they did?

I don't know why they would even think of doing that. How can they just let people die.
That is terrible, the captain should have put his passengers lives before himself. The crew should also have at least tried to save them and not just tell them to stay put and do nothing.
While I think that it was a very selfish thing for the crew to do, they were probably very panicked at the time and most likely weren't thinking straight. I don't think I could live with myself if I did something like that.....
I wouldn't have listened to the crew.
I think they were just more concerned with their own safety. It is not right and sad that these people died. I wonder if the crew had stayed on board if more people could have been saved.
The crew probably did this because they wanted to live... If a ship was sinking it is most likely every man for themselves... as long as crew didn't break any rules can you really punish them for trying to live?
this captain in my opinion should be fired for not doing his duty but on the other hand if you were on a sinking ship would you wait around for every one else to get off.
I think the crew abandoned ship to save their own lives. I don't think it should be against the law to save yourself.
