Black Panther Gives Back

In it's first two weeks in the box office, Black Panther made over $700 million dollars worldwide. Now, Marvel wants to give back to the children who enjoyed it so much. They hope to give $1 million dollars to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in celebration of the success of the movie. In a statement released by Disney CEO, Bob Iger, it was "thrilling to see how inspired young audiences were by the spectacular technology in the film." This one time grant will go to help "advance STEM programs for youth, especially in underserved areas of the country, to give them the knowledge and tools to build the future they want" he later added. This program hopes to build new STEM centers in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Wahington. These centers will be equiptment such as 3-D Printers, robotics, video production and other hands-on technologies, according to their release. This isn't the first time Disney has donated to this organization though. Last December, their parks division onated $1.1 million dollars to their local division in Central Florida.

Questions:

Do you think this is a generous donation? Could they have given more?

Did you enjoy the movie? Explain.

Are you involved in the STEM program? Do you like it? Why or why not?

My Answer:

I think this was a nice donation, but considering they gave more to one division than to the entire organizaton, I think that they probably could have donated a bit more to help benefit these kid more.

I have not yet watched this movie, but from what I have heard it was very, very good. It's stirring up great conversation so I'm sure it's probably a wonderful movie.

I am not, but I always enjoyed them in middle school! It was so much fun to make thing move from a simple computer program and put things together!

  • Super job Morgan!

  • 1. It was a great donation but I feel like they should have spread the money around more instead of just giving it to one organization for itself. Some of it could have gone to more children organization or where the kids will be affected by some of the money

    2. I have not seen the movie but I plan on watching it sometime. Everyone says that it is a good movie.

    3. No, I am not. I was in some classes in middle school but after awhile I got bored with it and decided to move onto different things. I liked the hands-on things where I could touch and put together but not a fan of computer programming things.

    • Great Answer! I'm not in STEM either! Programming isn't for everyone!

  • I think that this donation was extremely generous. I feel like the amount that they donated was extremely generous, as they should be expected to donate nothing, it was an extremely generous gift.

I haven't seen this movie yet, however I have heard some of the best reviews about this movie!

I also am not involved in the STEM program, but I believe that the programe is such an innovate program, that can help kids and teens extremely.

    • I think it was generous too! They are never expected to donate anything to anyone, so it is really generous!

  • I do think it a very generous donation. I do also think they could give a little more. I haven't seen the movie yet. I am not involed with the STEM progeram But some of the projects they do are cool.

    • Yeah! I totally agree! They could have given a bit more but it was still really generous!

  • I think it was a very generous donation. Yet I do think they could have been a little bit more considering how much the movie made, but 1 million dollars is still a lot. I very much enjoyed the movie, I think it incorporated everything a good superhero movie should. I am not involved in the STEM program, but I do find the projects they do very interesting.

    • I think it was too! They could have given more but that's not always our decision! It should be a really good movie!

  • I think this was a generous donation, and they could have given more, but $1 million goes a long way for a program like that. Black Panther was a very good movie. It was revolutionary for African American actors and gave us a sense of African culture with added fiction to it. I'm not involved in STEM but it is a cool and extremely beneficial program.
