Beef Exports to the People’s Republic of China

China and the United States are trying to open beef trade so we can ship beef over to China. China wants all cattle to have a certain identification from the time the cattle are born and they can not be bought out of Canada or Mexico. Cattle can not be older than thirty months of age. We can not implant cattle with Ralgro or a Zilmax which are both FDA approved to help cattle do grow better. The cattle must have another identification when the they are slaughtered and sent to China. The cattle must be antibiotic free. If we can start shipping more beef to other countries that would help our economy big time but it’s gonna take awhile to figure things out.

1. Is trading beef and beef products a good thing?

I think trading beef products is a good idea it opens more tade and makes more jobs.

2. Should we still be able to use anibiotic?

I think we should because if a calf is sick we shoud help it get better everything is FDA aproved and if a calf dies it looks bad.

  • Well done Madsen! Be sure to include personal thoughts within your summary next time.

  • Trading beef sounds like it's going to be a good thing for the economy because we are getting more trade with foreign countries. I think the cattle who need antibiotics should be able to get them.

  • Hounestly, I have idea if it's a good idea or not. I mean i think the anibiotic is ok i guess but, maybe it isn't. Maybe there's things in it that china doesn't want. They could also be using it for something or maybe some people have an allergy to what we put in beef. Maybe trading isn't a good idea. I mean what if something went wrong or goes wrong. I mean trading things is kinda dangurous don't you think?

  • It is a good thing because its make more jobs and would help our economy. In some cases we should be able to use antibiotics to help save calfs and cows that are pregnant but the antibiotics should be tested before use.

  • I think trading beef products with other countries would be a good thing because it would open up job opportunities and more trade. I think in some cases we should be able to use antibiotics like if the calf is sick and if it is FDA approved.

  • 1.  It is a good idea because we could use some of their food from across the seas and im sure that it will take awhile to figure things out.

    2.  We should be able to still use anibiotics because we need to treat sick calfs so that they are FDA aproved.

  • I think it's a good idea to open up beef trades with other countries because it would make our relationships better. We have several trading programs set up with tons of countries and it creates a stronger bond not to mention the profit both countries with receive.

  • I think that trading beef with other countries is a great idea, but it does seem to be very tedious and with a lot of stipulations. It just feels like so much is being asked of the cattle ranchers and it almost seems like to much work for not enough outcome. Beef isn't that expensive so the cost of transportation and packaging would seem to outweigh it.

  • 1. I believe that any trade of any sort is always good. It can't hurt to sell others cattle, and after a vetting process, we should be able to purchase cattle from other countries.

    2. I think we should be able to use antibiotics. People say that it either isn't good for you, or that it hurts the cow. First of all, Antibiotics that are safe for the cattle won't hurt you. Second, the cow is just going to get slaughtered anyway, so honestly, why does it matter?

    • When your born you have to have shots so you live a heathly life. Cattle are the same way the envorment will be hard on cattle and then they can't breath because their lungs fill up with bacteria.
