Are movie theaters dying?

They say that over the last couple of years, ever since streaming services have come out, that movie theaters are dying. Most people would rather stay home, turn on Netflix, and go to bed. But they say that this simple thing created to benefit entertainment is ruining a lot of business for movie theaters around the world. I mean think of it, why would anyone go see a movie, if they could just wait a few months for it to come out on a streaming service, that they can pay a monthly subscription for? Well, hopefully, I can change your mind about it.

Today most film studios are rethinking whether theatrical releases are worth it. Some think that nobody will want to go see a movie in a theater over time. Now I know I may be overstating this whole topic, and that people will still go to the theater when a movie comes out. But during the pandemic, it really crashed the movie theater market. Now I understand that the COVID-19 pandemic shut down movie theaters and made it harder to go. So not only did that delay a lot of movies coming out so people couldn't see them, but I think it made people stop caring. So I'll tell you why you should keep going to the movies.

I think Quentin Tarantino said it best. "When a movie comes out that you are interested enough to see, and it makes you want to leave your house, and buy a ticket, and you could do anything in the world you want that night. But you decide to see a film. One film in particular, and you go to see it on your own, maybe it's in the afternoon or maybe it's with a date or somebody, and you go to see it. And you sit down and you have an experience with a bunch of strangers. And at that moment, once the movie gets going, you become combined with others. And when you have a good experience, those are the things that stay in your mind and you keep with you for the rest of your life."

Obviously, I don't think that everything will change, if at all. We have seen that the box office still succeeds with releases like Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar 2. So in the end, it's up to the person, whether they will go to the movies or not. But I think going rather than waiting for a streaming service to release it, is a way better idea.

Do you think movie theaters are dying?

Would you rather go see a movie, or stay at home and watch a streaming service?

  • I would agree that movie theaters are dying. Unfortunately this is due to society changes and advancements in viewing accessibility. It used to be that before you were constructed to go to the theater before it's too late to see it at all for years to come. Now you can access almost any show or movie using streaming or online free movie sources. You can bring the theater to your home in seconds with any movie in the world and you will only pay pennies compared to the $10 you would spend to see just one movie. There are still some good things about movie theaters that make them worth keeping. Going to the movies is a way to get out of the house. You also get to see the movie the first time in airing for anyone, so if you're really excited for something in particular you can see it right when it comes out.

    • Yeah, I kind of wish they made it so you had to go to the movie theater before you could view it on a streaming service.

  • I would say that movie theaters are dying because people don't go out and watch movies at a movie theater that often anymore. Some people often wait until a movie comes out on a streaming service and watch the movie then. Personally, I would rather stay at home and watch on a streaming service because it is more comfortable to lay down on your bed and watch a movie.

  • I think that movie theaters are dying. It would depend on what movie theater I'm going to. If it was a cheap one then I think I would just stay at home and not spend my money to go see a movie in a bad movie theater. I think they are dying because nowadays you can buy a movie and watch it a week later it comes out.

  • Yes, I would have to say that movie theaters are dying out and more people just want to stay at home and watch it on Netfilx. I personally haven't been to a movie theater in over a year. I just would like to stay at home and watch it on Netflix.

  • Yes, I feel like people would rather sit at home and wait for it to come on Netflix. I love sitting in theaters the seats the popcorn the smell the candy makes everything so much better. I go to the movie theater once a month I wish I went more often taught.

  • I do believe that movie theaters are dying. Not only becasue we have so many choices to stream the movies at home now. We also have jredbox where ots 1.99 to rent a a moive or 2.99 to stream from home. But the cost to go the movies is to high, for a family of f4 its nearly 75.00 to go to the movies. That incliudes the cost of snacks and drinks. I personally prefer to stay home and stream the movie for half the cost, but i can eat all the snacks and have soda at home nearly under half the cost of the theater if my mom was to take us to one. So I would stay and wait for the movie that i want to see to be available at redbox, or a streaming service verses going to spend money at the theater

    • Yeah, the fact that prices are so high for families, makes it even harder to get people to go to the movies.

  • I do not think that movie theatres are dying currently, but they aren't as busy as they used to be. I usually stay at home and watch a streaming service but occasionally I do go to the theatre. Streaming services are becoming a lot more popular and you can see almost every movie on one of them which has changed the way people watch them now.

    • Yeah, a lot has changed, because now you can view a new movie from your home.
