Animal Sacrifice in Texas

Friday night, Bexar County, Texas, Sheriff’s deputies received a call from a citizen with concerns about animals being sacrificed.

Sgt. Elizabeth Gonzalez stated “It appeared that they were having some sort of unknown ritual.” Deputies found about a dozen people inside a garage that were later arrested for animal cruelty. One woman was dismembering animals and another was draining chicken blood into a container. Additional mutilated animals were found in the residence, including goat heads and more chickens. It was also published that those people didn’t speak English or Spanish.

One of the neighbors, who talked to a reporter after this incident, announced “I’ve had some issues with their dogs, but I’ve never seen them sacrifice anything before that.”

1. Do you believe the police saying it was some sort of ritual or do you think there is something else behind this story?

I think it was a ritual because they wanted to ‘save’ the blood of the chickens to use again in some sort of ceremony.

2. Does this event influence your thinking about your neighbors?

Not really. Since we live in a small town and I know most of my neighbors, I’m pretty sure they don’t do things like this.

Here is the original story.

  • Super job Hannah!

  •  I think it was a ritual based on the police report. No, I don't think any of my neighbors would do this.

    • My guess would be the same, but the police doesn't have to be right. Since this is only their assumption and they don't have any hints that support it, they could be wrong. Hopefully they'll find out more through investigation.

    • I haven't heard anything about symbols created with blood before, but I could imagine that this would have actually been their plan. I was wondering about the blood-savig-thing anyways and this sounds like a good explenation for it.

It's great to hear that the story doesn't affect your thinking about your neighbors because I didn't mean to scare anyone.

  • I think that there was something else and not a sacrifice of animals or there would be some other weird pictures and symbols. It make me question one of my neighbors just because I don't know them at all.

    • You're right, I couldn't find any pictures either. Of course, the police might have thought that it would be too cruel to make photos of what happened, but usually you would be able to find at least some blurred pictures on the internet. This might have several reason tthough; maybe the arrested people didn't want their house or faces to be on the internet, or the police just didn't have a camera with them at this time.

  • Going off the police report, it definetly sounds like some sort of ritual was going on. I don't think dozens of people would group together and sacfrice animals for their blood if it wasn't for time type of belief or religion. I don't really worry about my neighbors since its a small town and basically everyone knows everything about everyone. Although stories like these do make me wonder sometimes.

    • You'll never know what is going on in the heads of some people, that's why I kind of question the assumption of it being a ritual. Hopefully you and most of the other students that commented are right and it was some sort of religious ceremony because that's the best explenation, I guess.

  • 1. From what the story says it sounds like some sort of ritual to me, which is scary. That is just weird that they were cutting chicken and goats heads off like uh???

    2. No, because I live in a small town and I know who my neighbors are. I have lived by them for 16 years and I can all trust them. Most of my neighbors have dogs and aren't creeping and weird like some apparently

    • I guess even though this sounds scary to you, it's the better option. I'd rather consider this case as some religious type of ceremony than a group of people killing animals just for fun or because they were drunk, but I understand you.
