22-year old Naomi Musenga calls emergency services hoping that they can help her. Naomi kept trying to describe the horrible stomach pain she was in and was saying that she is going to die. The operator told her, "You will die certainly one day, like everyone else." The operator kept repeatingling telling her to call the doctors but Naomi kept begging for their help. Naomi finally hung up and a realtive came over to her house and found her and called 911 for help. The doctor had taken her to the hospital and she had 2 heart attacks and went through intensive care and eventually died. No exact cause had been determined but her autospy had shown tons of organ failures. During the investigation, the operator was suspended. It was stated that the operators answer around 12 calls a day and it can be hard to distinguish serious causes from boo-boos.

1. Do you believe that this was wrong doing in the person behind the operator, was it a malfunction in the structure, or did Naomi not give enough details?

I believe that this was wrong doing in the person. Every person that calls emergency services and demands for help should be helped. It is there jobs to help these people in need.

2.  What would you do if someone in your family or a close loved one was treated this way?

I would try my best to get the person who disrepected them, off of emergency services.

  • If someone is calling 911 for help then there sould be immediate action to come help that person. A call to 911 shouldn't be treated as a joke and the operator for 911 should be fired. If this was one of my family members then I would get the operator fired.

  • I agree that someone in emergency services needs to take every one of their calls seriously because if they are not sometimes horrible, sad junk happens and it ends up looking like their fault. I'm sure the operator did the best they could in that moment, but this should not go without consequence.

  • I agree with you that every person that calls emergency services and demands for help should be helped and treated seriously and that it is their job to help these people in need. That woman should have been taken seriously.

  • I would make sure to figure out who did this type of thing and report them. This is terrible and I would make sure this person is fired. You shouldn't even have the job if you aren't going to do it.

    • I agree with you that they should be fired for sure. A call to 911 isn't a joke and the operator should be fired. It is their job to send help for people that need it. It was obvious that this person was in serious trouble and she needed help but was denied help.

  • 1) I think it was wrong of the person because everyone that calls should be helped that what they are there for thats there job.

2)I would be very upset and I would get them off of the emergency service.

  • I think it was wrong of the person. Anybody who calls and needs something is supposed to get something. If they need help they need help. That's your job so do it.

  • I think that this was the telephone operators fault and anyone that calls emergency services should be taken extremely serious and should be helped right away. Also you don't tell someone thats in real pain and feels like they are dying that you will die someday that is not easing their pain and certianly not helping them in any way.

    • I completely agree. The phone operator is supposed to talk to caller through the emergency and try to keep them calm until help can arrive regardless of the situation. There's no way any person or family should have to go through a situation like this especially if it could have been helped.

  • 1. Yes of course, this is the perfect example of what NOT to do as a 911 operator, im no 911 operator but I would definantly not say something like that to aperson im trying to help, jeez, some people bro.

    2. Find the person responsible for treating him or her like this and exact some "street justice"
