3 Year Old Boy Starts Fire and Kills Family

In Caribou, Maine, a three year old boy, who is name Trenton Delisle burned his family's motor home down killing his mom, twin siblings, and himself. The fire marshall said that the boy set fire to something in the livingroom. The mom's sister, Amy Bouchard, also lived with them, and she said she caught Trenton Delisle trying to start a fire earlier in the day. She left for a while and came back to find the home in flames. Investigators say that there was a smoke detecter, but the batteries were taken out.

I think that if the kid was smart enough, he knew what he was doing, but I don't think the kid thought that what he was doing was bad. It also may have been just a coincidence that there was no batteries in the smoke detector.

What are your over all thoughts? Do you think the kid did this on purpose? Why or why not?

  • Great job!!

  • I think this was an accident, but I think it's weird that the aunt of the child didn't take away way ever he was using to make the fires in the first place. He obviously  didn't know what he was doing being that he was three years old.

    • Now that I think of it, it is a little strange that she didn't take away whatever he was playing with.

  • I think that it was an accident since the kid was only 3 years old which is also why I don't think that it he did it on purpose. I think that the family should have had batteries in the smoke detector though, because that is just common sense no matter where you are.

  • the kid probably did this on accident he would not know better because he is a 3 year old kid. they lived in a motor home so i bet they didnt have the $$$$ to pay for batteries in a smoke detector. Im sure he wouldnt want to kill his own family right b4 the holidays like that

  • he was probably to young to realize that the fire could kill his family, but he was smart enough to start one because he tried starting one earlier also

  • I think he was too young to realize what he was doing and he knew fire is dangerous but didn't realize that it would kill his family. I also think that the mother shouldn't have left the kid alone after what happened that day.

    • I agree with you because we have learned about fire ever since we were little. We knew it was dangerous, but i'm not so sure if he knew it was.

  • If the kid was trying to start a fire, I would have made sure i got it across to him that that is bad, and to make sure somebody was watching him. The kid obviously knew that fire was dangerous, because his sister tried to talk him into not doing that. He also may not of known because he was 3 years old, but im not sure either way.

  • I don't think he did it on purpose,, at that age he still probably didn't know what his actions would cause. I still would like to know what the kid used to start the fire and kill everyone.
